Making a Murderer Season 2: Everything You Need to Know

Netflix has no shortage of outstanding series, that is fact. My personal favorites have often been documentary series that are based on true events, such as Making a Murderer. The series is one of the highest rated shows to ever air on Netflix. With an 8.6 rating on IMDB and a 98% score on Rotten Tomatoes, its stats speak louder than words. Now the second season is coming on October 19th. Here’s what you need to know.

Making a Murderer Season 1 – Recap

Filmed over a 10-year period, Making a Murderer is a real-life thriller that premiered on Netflix on December 18, 2015. The first, ten-episode season goes deep into the story of Steven Avery, a man from Manitowoc County, Wisconsin, wrongly accused of sexual assault and attempted murder. The court had sentenced Steven to spend 18 years in prison but released him in 2003 after DNA evidence proved that he was innocent.

The first season shows the struggle of an innocent man trying to provide for his family and make them happy. Once he got out of jail he filed a lawsuit for 36 million dollars. Later in 2005, they accused him again, this time of the grizzly murder of Teresa Halbach, and convicted in 2007. The last part of the season focuses on the arrest and conviction of Avery’s nephew, Brendan Dassey, whom the court also charged with murder because of his confession while under interrogation.

The series shook a lot of people in Steven’s hometown and around the United States, showing that injustice might occur anytime to anyone. Back in 2015, people issued a petition to the White House asking for a pardon for Avery. It got more than 500,000 signatures. However, the White House’s statement noted: “the President cannot pardon a state criminal offense”.

Making a Murderer Season 2 – What You Need to Know

In July 2016, Netflix stated that it’s filming the second season of Making a Murderer. This one will also be composed of 10 episodes and will go deep into the aftermath of Dassey’s conviction and the emotional impact this whole process is taking on all the people involved.

This season, we will get to see what happened after Kathleen Zellner, Steven’s new lawyer, claimed that someone planted evidence against Steven. And with a statement from Judge Angela Sutkiewicz such as this: “The defendant has failed to establish any grounds that would trigger the right to a new trial in the interests of justice,” then Kathleen has a lot on her plate to deal with.

Will Steven’s new lawyer be able to help unravel the mystery? Will she be able to prove that he is really innocent of all these accusations? All you need to know is tune in to Netflix on the 19th of October and find out. Making a Murderer Season 2 – Final Thoughts

This season is going to pick up the excitement from where we left off in 2015. Steven was sentenced the first time but eventually acquitted, will he be able to do that again? Will his nephew get out of prison as well? We’ll just have to stay put and watch the second season of Making a Murderer Season 2 on Netflix, October 19th.
